Mandatory voting in USA
by Sour Grapes ini am sure that president obama's saying today that mandatory voting in the usa would be a good thing is going to get the witnesses all excited as they look forward to being persecuted for not voting.
just another sign showing how deep we are into the times of the end and how close they are to burying billions of people who don't read the watchtower.. sour grapes .

Yeah, mandatory voting is never going to happen. Here in Oregon a "motor voter" law was just passed. Now if you have any interaction with DMV, you are automatically registered to vote. Also in Oregon we do all voting by mail. So now witnesses will be receiving a ballot in the mail during elections. Makes it pretty easy to vote without anyone finding out, I've been doing it for years! -

Inactive ones are not JWs
by gone for good inyears ago, the insinuation was often presented, that those who were inactive were actually not witnesses at all.
the point being made was that ''...winesses is a verb, not a noun...''.
i know there were published assertions to this end in the older books and magazines, with possibly even quotes from the likes of rutherford or knorr ,.

Campaign of hate- I have wondered about that too, as I no longer turn in service time. I think it would be a evil genius move if they said, if you're inactive for longer than 6 months, without a valid excuse, it's considered disassociating yourself. It could be done fairly easily, you get a visit from a couple of elders asking why you aren't turning in time. If you don't have a good reason, you get a couple of months to turn in time. When/if you don't they annouce you as no longer one of jw's. If they did that, guess what? I'm turning in service time every month, and I bet many people would do the same. Instant increase in numbers! -

Steve2- 100% right about expressing apostate views. It always reminds me of Joe McCarthy and the communist witch hunts in the 50's. His question was, Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Communist Party of the United States? The elders have, "do you think Jehovah is directing this organization/ the governing body? Answering wrong to to either one pretty much ends you. -

I think people, especially the single and under 25 crowd, just know how the play the game better nowadays. If it's your first offense, it's pretty hard to get df'ed. When it's your 2nd time in the "back room", most people wise up, get their stories straight and are careful to give a redacted version of events. Around here, for the most part, the only people who get df'ed are, the serial offenders or naive kids/adults who don't know how to play the game.

When do you visit this site to view and post?
by stuckinarut2 inhey all,.
i'm curious about the times and places we all come and check in on this great forum.. is it after a long day at work while having a drink, or during the work day on your mobile tablets, or quickly in-between family evenings etc...?.
do most "hide" their tracks when using the family computer, perhaps using "private browsing"?.

A relatively new JW term - "Given Ones"
by Listener ini apologize if this has already been addressed.. i'm just having a look over at jw talk and came across a very interesting thread talking about the terms used within the organization, it is a real eye opener.
for instance, they no longer use the term society because to non believers it looks too cultish and implies that they may be secretive.
funny thing is that reading the whole thread makes them look so cultish and shows their secretive behaviour because the keep being told by the higher ups that there are more changes to come.

Interesting topic. It makes sense to do that, have a set authority system in place, just in case something happens. I agree the number of anointed is increasing, but these guys have to find somebody to run the company when they're gone. I just can't see the number of anointed men who they want to turn the business over to increasing. Then again it is a cult and the leaders now are insane, so maybe I'm just thinking to logically -

NoGoodDeed- I would say if they are under 25 that's pretty typical for the states. -

Leaving Christendom for the Kingdumb Hall
by gone for good inmost of us old timers left behind a stable, respected, religious heritage in our disillusioned haste to join a stupid cult.. as i recall, there was no rite of dissociation required - no reason offered to your church, no resignation required - it was a non-event from the dubs viewpoint.
what was your experience?
were you expected to do or say anything as you abandoned your spiritual heritage to become a drone in the watchtower hive?.

My mother and father were both raised Catholics, and my mom told me when they became witnesses they had to write a letter to the church to disassociate themselves. I was also baptized a Catholic as a infant, my parents converted when I was about 3, so maybe I'm still counted as a Catholic? -

Very good points OneEyedJoe. To go along with your point of elders trying to pry an hour out of publishers so they're not irregular/inactive-when i stopped turning in time, the elder I was supposed to turn my time to, just put down an hour for me without even asking! He is a friend so he was basically just covering for me
I do think if the number of anointed keeps going up something has to be done. Choices are- stop counting them, make it so a co or somebody has to give the ok to officially count them, or fudge the numbers, which I don't think they could do. If/when the number gets to 20,000+ something has to be done
